How to Build Dog House Kennel Plans

Dog house kennel plans typically include designs that can accommodate a variety of pet sizes and breeds. They are often constructed using wood or other materials that can be painted to match the home. Some are insulated while others may be built with a traditional shed framed floor over 4×6 treated lumber rails or even concrete. Some even include a run area for pets to exercise and play.

In the past, a dog’s plastic-and-wire crate would usually be hidden away in a corner of a room out of sight of guests. But as dogs become more important family members, they’re often being kept in a prominent place inside the house. That means their crates need to look good as well as be functional. With a little creativity, there are countless ways to give your dog’s crate a facelift that will make him proud of it.

The first step is to figure out how big a doghouse should be. According to the American Humane Society, a doghouse should be about as high as your dog is tall and about his length or width. You can use a tape measure to do this or simply place the doghouse on the ground.

Once you’ve measured your pet, you can cut the base parts to size out of pressure-treated 2x4s. Then, butt the edges together and secure them with wood glue or duct tape.

The next step is to install the roof panels. To do this, you need to attach 13″ pieces of 2×2 wood framing to the angled sides of the front and back walls. After that, you can put in the roof and add a few shingles for a more traditional look.
