How to Keep Your Dog House Warm Without Using a Heat Lamp

The sun is going down and it’s time for you and your furry family to hang out together in the backyard. The dog house is a cozy warm spot for them both to relax and watch the evening unfold. But what if there was a way to add a little extra heat to your dogs shelter without having it running all the time? There are some amazing options to keep your dogs house toasty that don’t involve a heat lamp.

If you do decide to use a heat source for your dog house remember that lamps generate a lot of heat and can scald your dog. Make sure that the lamp is a safe distance away from your dog and that it can’t be rubbed, chewed or exposed to moisture while it is in use. Also make sure that the cord isn’t in a position where your dog can trip on it.

It’s a good idea to replace any old fluorescent fixtures with LED lighting, particularly if you have a newer dog house. Fluorescent lights can buzz and flicker which disturbs dogs, cats and other pets more than humans because of the way they perceive light waves. LED lighting converts alternating current to direct current at the fixture which eliminates the buzzing and flickering. Plus, LED lighting uses far less energy than traditional fluorescent bulbs, so the cost of replacing old lighting can pay for itself very quickly in lower electric bills.
