Colorful counter-serve featuring classic & specialty hot dogs, plus sandwiches, sausages & nachos. Opened in 1977, Dog House Deli has long been a Pensacola institution serving downtown shoppers and local workers on Palafox Street. Today, owner Nathan Holler is adding a new wrinkle to the restaurant—a dinner menu and cocktail program—while still keeping the family’s signature lunch spot in business.
A bright orange frame surrounds the oversized deli sign that hangs above the front door at this diner-style establishment. The top wooden border features a cute floppy-eared dog wearing sunglasses—the big logo for this fast-casual eatery that’s not really about hot dogs (but a lot of them play a major role here).
After the severe flooding in Downtown Pensacola in April, the Hollers had to decide whether to close their restaurant and focus on their other locations or invest in significant renovations. They chose the latter and tasked Dalrymple Sallis with implementing a plan that accomplishes a number of stated project goals—including an elongated dining room, more efficient kitchen and increased bar seating.
A modern industrial design is achieved with the use of reclaimed wood. The original tongue and groove floors were ruined in the flood, so they were removed and replaced with a modern wood joist floor system. The Hollers and Sallis kept the old wood from this flooring and repurposed it into all of their tables, which adds both warmth and an element of history to the new space.
