The British series follows a dog rescue charity and its staff as they pair dogs with families. It’s wholesome and adorable and if you’re a dog lover, it’s an especially delightful watch.
The show takes place at Wood Green, a dog rescue center in Cambridgeshire that rehouses hundreds of unwanted dogs each year. Each episode, prospective adopters come to the shelter and meet with the staff who help them find their perfect pup. They tell their back stories and the staff match them with a dog based on temperament. Shy dogs trust patient new owners and boisterous puppies delight their matchmakers. Then, the viewers and their dogs spend time together while the staff observes on camera (and comments on how well it’s working with all the enthusiasm of a particularly eager sporting commentator).
It’s like First Dates for people who love pets. Some matches work out well, but others falter — usually due to temperament issues rather than the more innocuous reasons like living arrangement or food allergies. But, overall, the show is charming and even if the story structure becomes repetitive after a few episodes, it’s still worth watching for the heartwarming tales of humans and their canine companions.
